Why do farmers need websites?

April 21st, 2008 · No Comments

I was talking to a neighbour one day about the internet.
I said “I’m thinking of setting up a website for farmers to produce their own websites and blogs.”
“What the hell would a farmer need a blog for” came the big question. “Everything of course” was my short answer.

Now this person was not very forward thinking, but It made me realize how it means different things to different people.

On one hand, every business should have its own identity online to promote its products and services and stay in touch with its customers. On the other, a blog can be a very personal way of describing the ups and downs of farming life.

As farmers, we all run farm businesses and we need to promote our produce. And its also a way of highlighting issues effecting our farm business or local community. Networking with other farmers is very easy with a blog.

But best of all, its a great way to share your story with friends and family or like minded farmers world wide.
